Sex drive and hormones

Girls, let's talk about how our hormones affect our libido and overall health. I myself have recently reflected on the fact that we can all experience fluctuations in our sex drive at different stages of life. It turns out it has to do with our hormones, which regulate not only our libido, but also our physical and emotional well-being.

I became curious about how I could keep my hormones balanced to not only stay energetic and healthy, but also to keep my intimate life at the right level. It's important to understand which hormones play a major role in our bodies and what we can do to keep them in check. I'd be happy to share what I've learned with you and together we can discuss how we can take better care of our health.

1. Estrogen

What the hormone is:

Estrogen is the primary female sex hormone that plays a key role in regulating the menstrual cycle, maintaining healthy bones, skin, hair, and sex drive. Estrogen peaks during ovulation, which increases libido and supports the reproductive system.

Where to get it:

  • Foods: Include foods rich in phytoestrogens in your diet, such as soy, tofu, flaxseed, chickpeas and whole grains.
  • Vitamin D and calcium: Support estrogen levels.
  • Sources: fatty fish, dairy products, green vegetables.
Physical activity: Regular exercise maintains hormonal balance, including estrogen.

2. Testosterone

What the hormone is:

Testosterone is a hormone that is important not only for men but also for women. It contributes to energy, mood and libido. Low testosterone levels can cause fatigue and decreased sex drive.

Where to get it:

  • Foods: Increase your intake of foods rich in zinc and healthy fats: nuts, eggs, avocados, fatty fish and red meat.
  • Strength training: Lifting weights and intense exercise can stimulate testosterone production.
  • Healthy sleep: Testosterone is produced during deep sleep, so it's important to get quality rest.

3. Progesterone

What the hormone is:

Progesterone is a hormone that plays an important role in preparing the body for pregnancy and supporting the menstrual cycle. Low levels of progesterone can lead to irregular cycles and decreased sexual desire.

Where to get it:

  • Healthy fats: Foods rich in healthy fats such as coconut oil, olive oil, and fatty fish help increase progesterone levels.
  • Vitamins B6 and C: These vitamins help keep progesterone levels normal. Sources: bananas, spinach, potatoes, citrus fruits.
  • Stress management: Progesterone often decreases due to stress, so it is important to practice relaxation techniques such as meditation and yoga.

4. Cortisol

What the hormone is:

Cortisol is a stress hormone that is activated in response to stressful situations. High cortisol levels suppress libido, increase fatigue and negatively affect overall health.

Where to get it:

  • Stress reduction: To reduce cortisol levels, it is important to practice relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga and breathing exercises.
  • Physical activity: Moderate exercise such as walking or swimming can help normalize cortisol levels.
  • Healthy sleep: A good night's sleep helps the body to recover and reduce cortisol levels.

5. Oxytocin

What the hormone is:

Oxytocin is a hormone that is often referred to as the “love hormone”. It is responsible for increasing feelings of attachment and intimacy in relationships. Oxytocin is released during hugging, kissing, and other forms of physical intimacy.

Where to get it:

  • Physical contact: Hugs, kisses, beach vacations, massages and sex all contribute to the release of oxytocin.
  • Social Connections: Spending time with loved ones supports oxytocin production.
  • Meditation: Relaxation practices and meditation can also help release oxytocin and improve mood.

FOXXY: To keep our hormones healthy and libido in check, it's important to watch your diet, move more, manage stress and, of course, don't forget to get a good night's sleep. If you suddenly feel a serious change in your health or sex drive, you should see a doctor - it will help to understand the cause and restore balance.
